At the 2022 Local Authority election, we achieved the 'impossible!'
Despite challenges for The Conservative Party, polling companies and press predictions of a collapse in our vote, we in North Ayrshire not only bucked the trend but achieved our best result ever in a Local Authority Election, winning 10 seats!
Of the thirty-two local authorities in Scotland, only 4 (Inverclyde, Moray, Aberdeenshire and North Ayrshire) did not lose Conservative seats. Our success has caused reactions across the party as we were able to motivate our voters to turn out.
This gave our candidates a strong return of First Preference Votes (FPV), seeing them through the Single Transferable Voting (STV) process to be elected.
- We are the only party to have a councillor in every ward
- We saved Arran from the SNP
- We saved the North Coast from Labour
- We won our first ever Conservative councillor in Saltcoats and Stevenston
- Exactly 10,200 people in North Ayrshire voted Conservative Number “1”
- We pushed the ruling Labour administration into third place
- We are the official opposition to the SNP
Final Total: SNP 12, Scottish Conservative 10, Labour 9 and Independents 2.
