West Scotland MSP Jamie Greene, welcomed the recent news that investment by Peel Ports in the Liverpool2 terminal would significantly increase business at the Greenock Ocean Terminal. It is projected that by 2021 the number of containers handled at the terminal will double.
Mr Greene commented: “The Greenock Ocean Terminal is a fundamental part of the West Scotland economy and its place in the community is so engrained. To hear that private investment in the North of England will lead to better business in Greenock is good news for us.”
“More importantly, this just shows that economic growth in Greenock won’t mean losing some of the core aspects of our community; Greenock can grow and still remain proud to be a robust port town.”
“Greenock has the potential to significantly increase its business and will be a key driving force of Scottish exports in the next four years. This will create jobs and spur further investment into the local community.”
