New Candidate launches “What's the Chat?” Initiative
Jamie Greene who stood for the Conservatives in the General Election in May has been chosen to contest this area in the Cunninghame North seat for the Scottish parliamentary election next year. The new Cunninghame North candidate is also launching his local “What’s the Chat?” Initiative.
Jamie said “I am kick-starting my campaign with a short and simple survey aimed at a sample of voters across the constituency. It’s time that politicians and political parties listened to peoples' views locally. What really matters to you? We hear a lot of politicians telling people what they think is right but first and foremost I want to hear what YOU think. We will analyse, review, digest and publish the results in a fair and open manner. I hope that over the next 9 months you will see that I am genuine, honest, hard-working and will fight for the right and privilege to represent this area.”
Over the coming weeks, the local Conservative party aims to contact constituents through a survey across a variety of areas in the constituency asking people for their views on local and national issues. It is also being published online. For details of the survey and a link go to: www.facebook.com/northayrshireandarranconservatives
Speaking last week at his selection meeting, which was held in Ardrossan Civic Centre and attended by local members of the party, Jamie said he was “delighted and honoured” to have been chosen to carry on the fight in Cunninghame North.
He told the party faithful that “there are three reasons I am excited and thrilled to be standing for election again. First of all, many people told me on the doorsteps that they might vote Labour in the Westminster election purely to try and stop the SNP winning this seat but were Conservative supporters – so the tactical vote was a wasted vote and I hope they will return to support me this time round. Secondly, despite the increased turnout we grew our vote count by 10% in this seat. There are many people who think I would be good elected representative for this area in Parliament. Thirdly, the PR system in Holyrood means that every vote does count and it is fully my aim to be elected as a Scottish Conservative in the Scottish Parliament next year – it would be an honour to be the MSP for Cunninghame North. I will be asking for your constituency vote and party vote. There is no shame in being a centre right thinking voter in Scotland and I am here to ensure you find a comfortable, honest and welcoming home in my party.”
Richard Wilkinson, local party chairman said “The members were really pleased that Jamie wanted to stand again in this area. He is now well known in the constituency and we are going to spend the next nine months showing people that Jamie would make for a great Member in the Scottish Parliament – he has a vision for this area and we will share that with the electorate.
The selection of a candidate for Cunninghame South will follow in a few weeks time”.
