Murdo had been very involved in the Referendum Campaign and noted that the Better Together Campaign won by a handsome majority – 11% across Scotland but by an even greater margin of 20% in the Largs area.
He reminded his audience that in 1980 the Quebec Referendum was lost by a large margin but the repeat Referendum in 1995 was much closer .The continuing uncertainty over the years has resulted in a negative impact on the economy and a steady move of financial institutions out of Montreal ( Quebec) to Toronto .If the SNP continue to talk up a case for another Referendum the ensuing uncertainty will lead to business relocating to more secure locations.
On the Smith Commission proposals Mr Fraser welcomed the proposal that the Scottish Parliament could now set Income Tax rates and so remove itself from the situation where the Scottish Parliament was spending money given to it by Westminster and then claiming it was not enough .
The proposal for a range of further tax raising powers would enable the Scottish Conservatives to resist tax rises and expose Nicola Sturgeon as having a leftist agenda with her Government’s proposals for a top rate in income tax and a land and property tax. These would hit the middle classes and the latter bring class warfare to the Scottish countryside with the SNP deciding to challenge rightful ownership of land on the basis of what it is used for rather than allow rightful possession. If passed into law such proposals will result in the breakup of rural estates into smaller uneconomic units with the subsequent threat to rural jobs
Mr Fraser reminded his audience that the General Election is earl next year The leftwards march of the SNP and the disarray of Labour gives every incentive for voters to support the Conservatives . The UK government policies have ensured that the UK economy is the most stable in Europe, has the fastest growth in the G7 Nations, has low unemployment, and record levels of employment. These are achievements that must be built upon
