I would like to take this short opportunity to say a personal thank you to the people of North Ayrshire and Arran for their votes in the recent Scottish Parliament election. Indeed my thanks is also to the many across the West of Scotland who took part in our regional list ranking process. A democratic selection process which helped elect me to Holyrood as an MSP for the West Scotland region.
Elections do not fight themselves, they are the product of many hours, days and months of hard graft. A hard working team of volunteers from our associations who knocked on doors, telephoned and delivered leaflets. To them I am hugely grateful.
In due course I will be opening an office in the West region and will be holding surgeries as soon as I have administrative staff on-board to help deal with the various cases and issues which arise.
Regardless of your politics or affiliations, I pledge to be a hard working member of our parliament. I promise to be friendly, helpful and approachable during my time as an MSP.
Many voted Conservative for the first time in their lives this year. I am grateful for that support, I was honoured to come second in my own seat of Cunninghame North. I do not take the task in hand lightly however. Many voted Conservative because they responded to Ruth Davidson’s message that Holyrood needed a strong opposition and that is what we intend to do. To work hard and honour those votes.
I also thank my fellow candidates of other political parties for their respectful campaign and to those who were elected in the constituency seats across the region I wish them the very best in their roles and hope to provide a constructive dialogue with them where required.
Politics can be a difficult game and you take the highs and lows with trying to get elected but I am hugely appreciative of the support I have been given by many friends, family and even strangers. I hope to repay that support over the next five years as I pursue my new role in public service.
Many thanks
Jamie Greene MSP
