Local MSP Jamie Greene today welcomed the new plans for a multi-million-pound investment into Ardrossan Harbour as reported in the Ardrossan Herald.
North Ayrshire Council and harbour owner Peel Ports said they aimed to save the "shortest, fastest and cheapest" route to Brodick. Peel Ports outline they would be investing in “significant infrastructure upgrades” such as improvements to harbour walls, gantries, bollards, fenders and signage.
Peel Ports are due to present the proposals to Transport Minister Humza Yousaf before Christmas.
Mr Greene commented: “Peel Port’s multi-million-pound investment is welcome news. The modern infrastructure will help support the current operation by improving docking reliability in poor weather.”
“This investment is extremely important to the Ardrossan economy much as is the current ferry service as it provides so many jobs to the local area.”
“The investment shows that the ferry service should remain at Ardrossan for another 100 years.”
“I will continue to support the Ardrossan-Arran ferry service as I have made quite clear for the last months. ‘Save our Ferry’ has overwhelming cross-party support and much clearer benefits than a relocation to Troon.”
“I will continue to press the Scottish Government to back the retention as Ardrossan as the homeport for the ferry.”
