Jamie Greene, Scottish Conservative candidate for Cunninghame North in the West of Scotland gave an impassioned speech at the Scottish Conservative Party Conference at Murrayfield in Edinburgh last week.
In his speech he attacked the SNP over its claim to be Stronger for Scotland, outlining a number of key "fails" in education, health and farming. Citing reduced college places, missed hospital targets and highlighting the recent CAP payment delays to farmers as evidence of his view.
He said that "We will not stand idly by and let the SNP threaten the security and safety of our union. If the polls are right and the SNP returns to Holyrood with a Majority in May, then it is not only our desire, but it is our DUTY to fight to become Scotland’s official opposition party. I will fight for every voter in Scotland who not only rejects the concept of independence but who rejects the notion that the SNP speaks for all Scots at all times. THEY DO NOT!"
He concluded his speech by telling delegates at the conference, which included the Prime Minister, David Cameron and leader of the Scottish Conservatives, Ruth Davidson, that "Let me say this to the SNP, we are watching you. We are snapping at your heels. We will hold you to account in Holyrood. The days of resting on your laurels are gone. Every government needs a credible opposition and that is what we intend to be.
The only people who are truly Stronger for Scotland are Ruth Davidson and the Scottish Conservatives."
