West region Conservative MSP, Jamie Greene, has told local press that he has been contacted by numerous constituents across the region that the public toilet facilities at Paisley Gilmour street have been us of order for a lengthy period of time with no proper apology or word on when they would open when people enquired.
Mr Greene said "These past few weeks numerous people have contacted me to say that the loos are out of use. It might not seem important in the grand scheme of the issues that public transport faces but it is vital that commuters and travellers have access to facilities. I recently ran a campaign calling for adequate public conveniences, especially for those with stomach conditions who need access whilst out and about, and I am disappointed that this busy station has not been able to offer commuters alternatives or respond to complaints.
Paisley is bidding to be City of Culture, and I support that bid, but if we can’t provide basics such a public toilet in our primary busy train station it doesn’t bode well. I hope we see improvements in this quickly."
