Scottish Conservative and Unionist Group on North Ayrshire Council has said the latest A&E waiting times are a “damning indictment” of SNP Health Secretary Humza Yousaf.
The Group’s call comes after the latest A&E waiting times statistics showed only 69.8% of patients were seen within four hours at A&E. This was the fourth week in a row that waiting times have risen and were the fourth worst on record.
The SNP’s target is for 95% of patients to be seen within four hours, but this has not been met since July 2020.
In Ayrshire and Arran Health Board only 69% were seen within four hours at Crosshouse University Hospital.
Group Leader, Cllr Tom Marshall said the figures as woeful and says the blame for continued poor performance at A&E in Ayrshire and Arran Health Board lies squarely with the SNP.
Cllr Marshall commented;
"Performance at A&E in Ayrshire and Arran Health Board continues to be completely unacceptable.
“These delays are leading to needless deaths, as proven last week by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.
“It is extremely alarming that so many patients waited beyond the SNP’s own target time to be seen.
“They need to take responsibility for their failures to support A&E in Ayrshire and Arran Health Board Their failure to recruit staff has left departments stretched beyond breaking point and unable to treat patients quickly enough.
“It is clear that Humza Yousaf’s flimsy NHS Recovery plan isn’t working for patients in Ayrshire and Arran Health Board”
