Local MSP visited Meallmore Kincaid Care Home in Greenock last week.
Kincaid House was completed in 2009 and provides expert nursing care for up to 90 older people.
The visit follows an official parliamentary motion lodged by Mr Greene where he congratulated team member Heather McGachy on receiving the nurse of the year award.
Jamie met with local residents and staff at the xxx care home in Greenock. As well as a tour of the purpose built building he chatted with senior management from the parent company including the Care Home Manager Barbara Lawson and Area Manager, Cillian Hennessey.
Commenting on the visit the local MSP said “I was really impressed by the facilities at this care home. In particular, the work they have put into caring for patients with dementia who have very specific needs. Everything from the retro furniture, to having visual aids to help residents who become confused or upset about their surroundings.”
He added “Clearly the staff morale is high in this facility, in an industry which often suffers from high turnaround. There is a real family feel about the place and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. It is clear that we need more modern purpose built facilities like this to take the pressure off local authority care homes, but we also have to remember that the funding mechanism in place to care for the elderly has to reflect the reality of the cost of caring for them.
We have a growing ageing population in Scotland so a comprehensive think about how we care for people in their latter years needs to be open minded to a broad mix of care options for people of all abilities and financial situations. Most importantly, care levels and standards should be high regardless of who is paying for your loved ones care.”
