Jamie Greene, local West Scotland regional MSP attended the Largs Agricultural Show in Inverkip on Saturday to show his support for the farming and rural communities. He met with the show organisers, visited the array of stalls and chatted with the many locals who turned up in good numbers, despite the threat of a spot of rain which forced many into the beer tent by the afternoon.
He met with the Inverkip Community Centre team who updated him on the progress for the new “Hub” opening later in the year in Inverkip and looked at plans and photos of the prospective new community centre. Speaking at the event Jamie said “I was hugely impressed by the sheer speed of construction of the building and it is really exciting to see what the new community hub will offer to the local area. It has real potential to be used a modern, multi-purpose place for the community to make the most of and I look forward to its opening in September.”
Jamie also met with the RNLI volunteers to show his support for the other “emergency service” and also met with the St Andrews First aiders who said the day had passed with relatively no major dramas.
Overall Jamie commented “Having attended other agricultural shows across the region including Beith and Dalry, it was a pleasure to attend the Largs show this year in my capacity as a new Member of the Scottish Parliament. The turnout was a little lower than last year due to the weather perhaps but the sense of community spirit was there in full force. I am a strong proponent of our rural communities and as such I will be sitting on the Rural Economy committee in Holyrood. I also have been given a brief as the Conservative party spokesperson on Connectivity and will be closely looking to see how the government rolls out fast internet and robust mobile reception in Scotland’s rural areas. Watch this space, I will keep people posted of my progress on this and I look forward to working on all matters concerning the Rural Affairs brief.”
