Conservative candidate, Jamie Greene, addressed the Scottish Conservative Party conference in Edinburgh last Friday focussing on the track record of the Tory government over the last 5 years. He reminded conference that “It is a Conservative government that has reduced the number of people that rely on unemployment benefits weekly in North Ayrshire and Arran by a staggering thirty-six percent since 2010. It is a Tory government that has reduced tax for around forty-one thousand people in this constituency and taken over four thousand-three hundred out of the tax system completely – giving them more of their hard earned money in their pockets. There is no such thing as government money, it is your money!”
Speaking at the conference which included delegates such as local MSPs Jackson Carlaw and Annabel Goldie, Scottish Tory party leader Ruth Davidson and the Prime Minister David Cameron, Jamie told the audience that his message to voters is this: “If you share our values and beliefs, then vote for us. If you agree with our policies, then vote for us. If you feel Conservative, then vote Conservative”. He added “Scottish politics is not owned by the political left. You should not be afraid to vote with your heart, surely democracy is about voting for what you believe in?” Talking about his fight against his local opponents he said “I say this to them. This two horse race just turned into a three horse race, the voice of the centre-right is very much alive.”
He quoted from an email from an undecided voter who contacted him last week after reading of his selection to say that it is Conservative policies on tackling crime and improving justice, attracting investment and jobs to Scotland and making the NHS more efficient that had swung him to plan on voting Conservative on May 7th. Mr Greene also quoted from various polls suggesting that the people of Scotland preferred the option of David Cameron as Prime Minister than the potential of an Ed Milliband government, propped up by the SNP.
Welcoming the announcement by David Cameron that Type 26 Frigates will be built on the Clyde, safeguarding 600 jobs, Jamie said “I want children in North Ayrshire and Arran to grow up in an area that welcomes investment in business, supports manufacturing, supports entrepreneurship and creates apprenticeships. Labour trashed the British economy once and will do it again, the SNP are scaring off investment with their continual obsession with separatism and the constitution. It’s about time you had an MP who’s aim is to champion local jobs and support people who work hard and aspire to improve their quality of life and those around them.”
